The Pulque Fest

A connection between worlds happened at our very first Pulque fest earlier this month!

It was a curious fusion of deeply rooted Central Mexican Traditions manifesting in the Caribbean at our modern-retro hotel.

How it unfolded

Over four days we celebrated, taking a deep dive into the world of the Maguey plant and the sacred ancestral brew produced from it.

The opening gathering on the rooftop was blessed with a slow sinking sunset and melodious jazz by the trio Lecle. Guests were greeted with tastings of activated pulque - and while that may seem expected of a Pulque Fest, the prominence of this specific pulque must not be dismissed.

The Pulque itself

The Pulque selected for this event was only the most superior standard that is found in the Caribbean. Usually, the drink is an exceptionally bubbly fermentation, much like kombucha, which must be slightly deactivated in order to be controlled.

The Pulque we tried however, was the result of a collaboration with Tlaxcalan engineers, using nanotechnology to ensure the most refined product possible. This standard also maximized the benefits received by consuming the beverage. In fact, the ancient cactus brew is abundant in natural proteins and minerals.

Back to the event

We closed with a sunset gathering, supplied with the eclectic sounds of Mundoo, after a slightly moody weathered day featuring one of those dramatic Tulum skies that leaves you filled with the bliss of possibility and wonder.

Through its many stories, the Maguey worked its magic, weaving us all together under the stars on this mystical stretch of Mayan coastline. We remembered the culture and traditions that came before humans walked the earth and connected ancient traditions to the Distrito community. We came away with a deeper connection to Pachamama and her wonders, without ever asking anything in return.

The highest gratitude to all who came; it was truly an honor to have shared Pulque fest with you.
